GIT LYMPHATICS-FILTERING MECHANISM

1. First filtering mechanism - lymphoid follicles which lie in the mucous membrane (from mouth to anus).
2. Follicles in the ileum aggregate together into Payer's patches visible through the muscular wall.
3. Lymph vessels pass from follicles to nearby LN.

IN SMALL & LARGE INTESTINES
4. First group of LN - juxtaintestinal nodes lies adjacent to gut in the mesentery of small intestine; paracolic nodes lie adjacent to large intestine. Epicolic nodes - additional nodes which lie on the external surface of the gut wall.
5. Second group - lies along the main blood vessels of supply.
6. Third group - preaortic group at the bases of the coeliac, SMA, IMA.
