GIT HISTOLOGY-STOMACH

1. At the cardio-oesophageal junction, there is an abrupt change from stratified squamous to single-layered columnar epithelium which then continues to the anal canal.
2. In the body of the stomach the mucus-secreting surface cells dip down to form gastric pits. Gastric pits contain peptic (secrete pepsin), parietal (secrete hydrochloric acid + intrinsic factor), mucus cells (secrete mucus).
3. 1cm ring at the cardia - glands are shorter + cells are mucus-secreting.
4. In the pyloric region - glands are like coiled test-tubes + cells are mucus-secreting.
